Our inspiration is the iconic picture “Earthrise”, which shows the Earth rising above the moon, sent to Earth by the astronauts of the Apollo 8 mission on Christmas Eve 1968. They flew into space in order to explore the moon, and discovered the Earth instead. The picture went around the world and became a symbol for spaceship Earth and the vulnerability of our planet. Many people saw the Earth as a fragile sphere shrouded in its atmosphere, traversing the cosmos all alone, and it dawned on them: The unsustainable exploitation and threat to this world’s resources must be stopped. In order to achieve this, humanity needs a more comprehensive under-standing and data connectivity of the Earth.
